What is a manicure?

A manicure is a cosmetic beauty treatment for the fingernails and hands, which includes cleaning, shaping, filing, and buffing the nails, pushing back and trimming the cuticles, and applying nail polish.

The manicure process usually starts with soaking the hands in warm water or a specialized solution to soften the skin and the cuticles. After that, hand and arm massages can be performed to promote relaxation and increase blood circulation.

The nail technician will then clean under the nails with a specialized tool and use a nail file to shape the nails, typically in a round or squared shape. The cuticles will be pushed back with a cuticle pusher or trimmed with clippers.

The nails are usually buffed and polished with a base coat, two coats of color, and a topcoat to add shine and protect the polish. Different designs and finishes, such as French tips, glitter, or nail art, can also be added to enhance the look of the nails.

A manicure can improve the overall appearance of the hands and nails, promote healthy nail growth, and enhance relaxation. It is a popular beauty service among women and men and is often offered in spas, salons, and nail bars.
